Each Tuesday I will deliver to you two things that are relevant to wellness.
Self-care is not self-indulgent or a treat, it is as necessary as breathing! What can you do to take care of yourself?
- Sleep is one of the most important elements of self-care. A good nights sleep actually starts with a good morning. It is important to have exposure to natural light preferably in the morning. If you live in Canada like I do, natural light in the morning in December is hard to come by. I increase my Vitamin D intake starting in the fall until spring. Some people choose to use a “Happy Light©” as well to provide that exposure to light. I avoid caffeine after lunch and try to stick to the bedtime routine I mentioned last week. This is a good article that explains the sleep cycles. SLEEP CYCLES
- Our Canadian tax dollars at work – yes, it’s true! This week I came across a website that provides free resources and tools supporting mental wellness. One of the statements I make when I am presenting on “Moving from Stressed to Resilient” is “Mental wellness is a journey not a destination”, so when I noticed they used that statement in their opening comments, I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised to see a variety of topics including helplines for adults, kids, and teens. There are also supports for those in immediate crisis. Check out the Wellness Together Canada website.
Have a great week!
