Each Tuesday I will deliver to you two things that are relevant to wellness.
Self-care is not self-indulgent or a treat, it is as necessary as breathing! What can you do to take care of yourself?
1. “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” Virgina Wolf. Feeding yourself well is showing yourself some self-care. Shopping, prepping, and cooking are a powerful form of self-care. I love to cook and entertain, and for me it is self-care. If you learn one new recipe a week or even a month, think of the roster of meals you will have. I will often take a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and make up several freezer pack meals that can be popped into the slow cooker later in the week. Or I will make a meal that transforms into two. Here are two of my favourite freezer pack meals. Send me a message if you would like more recipes.
2. Eating mindfully is important to a healthy lifestyle and your self-care. The Mediterranean’s have it right. Dinner is an event that includes healthy food consumed over a longer period that includes good conversation with family and friends. Our on-the-go lifestyle eating in the car or at our desks is putting our bodies into the fight and flight state which releases adrenaline and cortisol which stresses out our digestive system. Whenever possible make dinner an event. Oh, and one bonus of the Mediterranean Meal Plan, is a glass of red wine. (PS – I don’t like the word diet so I replaced it with Meal Plan it’s more of a lifestyle choice) And finally if you want that piece of cake, enjoy every bite, or in my case the fries/poutine.
